  • What are your wedding photography prices?
Design your own wedding photography package by simply adding my hourly rates and your choice of printed products. See link to pricing page. Full wedding photography package prices are not listed as they vary by location. I often create custom wedding photography packages for clients so please email me and I will send you all the information you need.
  • Do you work with a second photographer?
I'm the only photographer working with my company, and the only photographer shooting on each wedding day. If you are still unsure as to how the day can be documented by only one photographer I will be glad to provide some galleries for you to see how I cover the entire day on my own.
  • Do you offer engagement photography sessions?
Yes, I do! Depending on my clients needs, engagement photography sessions typically run between 60-90 minutes and include 15 digital negatives, chosen by you, from an initial online gallery of around 50 images. Final 15 digital negatives are available for digital download. Certain travel rates may apply to areas outside my usual geographic location.
  • Where do you live and how far will you travel?
I live in Maple Grove, a suburb 15 miles NW of Minneapolis, MN. I travel all over Minnesota and the world and have photographed destination weddings in places like France, Germany, Cuba, Mexico, Ireland, England, South Africa and the USA. I'm a destination wedding specialist with hundreds of frequent flier miles. My travel expenses are billed very simply--if airfare, hotel and car rentals are needed, you will be responsible for reimbursement of the charges, while the rest of your wedding will be billed normally.
  • We want to take photographs at a unique wedding location. Do you know if we need a permit?
There are many places that do require you to get a permit but the permit has to be obtained by the client, not the photographer. If you have any questions about the location, just let me know and I will help you figure out if a permit is needed.
  • How long does it take before we receive our products and photographs?
Online blogs are posted within 2-3 weeks of your wedding date. Digital files are usually available between 2-3 weeks after your wedding but this time frame is dependent on the time of year and my schedule. Wedding albums are ready within 2 weeks after you provide me with your selection of photographs needed to design your album.
  • How many images will we receive?
My average minimum is around 400 images, but those numbers vary and depend on factors like the number of guests, hours of coverage, type of event, how many hours of dancing covered etc.
  • Do we keep the digital negatives?
I provide the selected, edited high-resolution digital files (the digital equivalent of negatives). I do retain the copyright to the images and the right to use the for promotional purposes, competition, professional review, etc. You are allowed to make unlimited personal reproductions and copies for your family and friends.
  • Do we receive the raw, unedited files?
The raw, unedited files aren't available for viewing or purchase. The final images selected for editing and final delivery reflect my high standards and everything else isn't archived in the studio. The original images that didn't make the final cut aren't archived and therefore aren't available.
  • Do you edit all you own images?
Yes, I do! Every image that you receive has been hand-edited, one at a time, without batching in bulk groups or mass-producing the results. Retouching includes cropping, colour correction and the removal of blemishes. More involved editing or requests for major image manipulation like removal of braces will incur an extra charge.
  • Do you come to the wedding rehearsal?
Wedding rehearsal dinner coverage is available if you'd like to add it to your wedding photography package, otherwise I don't attend the wedding rehearsals.
  • How does the album design process work?
I give you 3 months to make your photo selections before the book is subject to a fee due to increases in yearly production costs. You will be given various options pertaining to cover style, combo covers, color, and other small details. I strive to keep your designs clean and classic. All full-page album spreads are printed on your choice of paper and mounted to substantial cardstock for thick pages that lay flat, resulting in a durable and stylish finish.
  • Do you need time to photograph the Bride and Groom alone?
Absolutely. Depending on your wedding package I'd like between 30-60 minutes alone with you both sometime during the day to create some images of you without your wedding party or guests looking on.
  • Do you take posed family photos?
Definitely. I strongly believe in those family images, as they're records of your entire family at an important time in your history together.
  • Can we provide you with a 'short list' of wedding photographs?
Other than family groupings, I'd prefer that you didn't as it results in a lesser amount of wedding photography documentary coverage and more time spent rounding up guests to check the groupings off a list.
  • What cameras and lenses do you use?
I currently use 2 x Nikon D850 Full-frame camera bodies. My 'workhorse' wedding lenses include my Nikon F/2.8 70-200mm, Nikon F2.8 24-70mm and my Nikon F/1.4 85mm portrait lens. I all have macro lenses, 35mm portrait lenses and various Nikon speedlights and reflectors packed into my bag.
  • Can you hold a date for me?
Depending on your wedding photography package of choice a booking fee is necessary to reserve your date with the outstanding balance of payment due on the day of your wedding.
  • What is your payment schedule?
Depending on your wedding photography package of choice a booking fee is necessary to reserve your date with the outstanding balance of payment due on the first business day after your wedding date.
  • What form of payment do you accept?
Cash, checks written out to 'Charnell Timms' or via Paypal Credit card which will incur an added 3% 'convenience fee' charge.
  • If we're running late, will you stay longer than you were scheduled?"
Certainly. I do have an overtime rate and it goes into effect only with your permission and approval that I continue coverage. I will bill you for those hours after you return from your honeymoon.
  • Do we need to feed you at the wedding reception?
It would would be greatly appreciated if you did. It doesn't have to be the same as your sit-down meal (many caterers offer “vendor meals” as an add-on option). Feeding me ensures that I keep my sense of humour, not to mention keeping me more mobile. I also prefer to be fed when you are eating, because when you're eating your not at your most photogenic.
  • Can our family and friends take photos with their cameras?
Definitely. I do however request they not swarm the family photographs right away because I'd prefer all eyes facing me in your images. I don't allow family or friends to come along for the bridal images or the images of you two alone for privacy purposes as other people are distracting.
  • What can I expect from my high school portrait session?
Your senior photos should be a reflection of the stuff you love – your favorite spaces, your beloved activities, clothes you feel awesome in. But they are also a recognition of you as a new adult, and so portrait sessions have to feel totally comfortable to get your real expressions, your total fierce face, your belly laughs – all those things that show off the authentic you. We will start by figuring out locations that really speak to you, and then we will spend some time photographing in those spaces.
  • How much time will the senior photo session take?
Full sessions are one hour long and include up to three outfit changes, while 'Urban energy' city shoots are 90 minutes in length and include up to two locations and three outfit changes. I also offer a petite 30-minute session at Woodcrest Park in Maple Grove.
  • How do I get the files from my senior photo session?
Yes. Firstly, I upload a 'proof gallery' of between 100-200 images which have been lightly edited. From this gallery you will select your final 20 images, which I will then color correct and retouch before making them available to you via digital upload in high resolution. Additional images can be purchased at $15 per image.
  • Will you submit my senior photo to my school for me?
Most people find it easiest to give me the file sizing information, and then I can send them the files for their schools. I can also send them directly to your school if you give me all the contact information.
  • What is the cost for senior photos?
Full portrait sessions cost $425, City-portrait sessions cost $525 and my petite 30-minute sessions around the corner from me here in Maple Grove on Woodcrest Park's wooden bridge cost $300.
  • How long do I have to wait to see the photos?
Typically, I take no longer than two weeks to upload your original 'proof gallery' from which you will make your final selections.
  • Can I bring my pet and friend to the photo session?
Yes, but I do charge $25 for your pet as well as $25 for any other person you would like included in the portrait session.
  • Do you have a list of favorite photoshoot locations?
  • What process can my family expect during these sessions?
I take a very relaxed approach to my photography and spend as much time as necessary getting my clients comfortable in front of the lens. Bringing out people's confidence and personality is one of my greatest assets and drives everything I do. We will start with some posed/more formal photos and then I will encourage your family to be yourself. The latter part of the session will focus on individual portraits as well as more 'environmental style' portraits as I capture your family interacting in a more spontaneous fashion.
  • How long are your portrait sessions and what is included in the price?
A One hour (60-90minutes) of photography costs $525 and includes 20 high resolution digital negatives (these are the digital negatives that you will download, free of watermarks in High Resolution). You will get to choose your own final 20 images from a 'proof gallery' of between 100-300 images. If you would like to purchase more digital negatives, they cost $15 each. You have the rights to use those for all your personal usage like sending to family, making prints etc.
  • What if it rains?
If the weather looks too rainy for photos, I will generally cancel or postpone the sessions and offer a rain date or a refund. You can always move to another session date, and choose a new location too.
  • What is the best time of day to schedule a family photo session?
Photography is all about creating with light, so light is the most important aspect in producing amazing portraits. Picking a time as close as we can to the 'golden hours' of the day (1-2 hours after sunrise or before sunset) is ideal, but often not very practical with small kids trying to work around their nap/dinner schedules. That is when I will propose a few different locations that might work better for shooting in harsher/more direct light.
  • Do you carry business insurance?
Yes, I carry equipment and liability business insurance. Some event venues and portrait locations require vendors to provide proof of liability insurance in advance of the event date.
  • What equipment do you shoot with?
I currently use 2 x Nikon D850 Full-frame camera bodies. My 'workhorse' wedding lenses include my Nikon F/2.8 70-200mm, Nikon F2.8 24-70mm and my Nikon F/1.4 85mm portrait lens. I all have macro lenses, 35mm portrait lenses and various Nikon speedlights and reflectors packed into my bag.
  • Do you edit all the Photos you deliver?
Yes. Firstly, I upload a 'proof gallery' of between 100-200 images which have been lightly edited. From this gallery you will select your final 20 images, which I will then color correct and retouch before making them available to you via digital download. Additional images can be purchased at $15 per image.
  • Can we bring our dog to the photo session?
Yes, with pleasure, but bringing your pets will incur an additional cost of $25.
  • Do you have a list of favorite photoshoot locations?
